The Institute of Social Sciences of Namık Kemal University was founded in accordance with the University Foundation Law Annex 62(d) published in the Official Monitor No. 26111, dated March 17, 2006 with the purpose of educating scientists, having universal criteria, being open to scientific novelty, carrying the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge, bringing scientific thinking forward,possessing free-thinking, discussing, researching, questioning, giving importance to ethical values, developing knowledge and producing results to the service of humanity, offering solutions to problems and working to improve the existing structures in different fields of social sciences.

The Institute of Social Sciences began with the Health Management Master Program (with thesis) for the first time in the 2011-2012 Academic Year. With the thesis and non-thesis master's degree programs opened in the following academic year 2012-2013, the number of active Master’s degree programs increased to 9 while the number of students increased to 292.
